Egyptian Canopic Jar earrings
Product Description
Canopic jars were used by the Ancient Egyptians during the mummification process to store and preserve the internal organs of their own for the afterlife. The jars were used from the time of the Old Kingdom until the time of the Late Period or the Ptolemaic Period. Image of the Canopic jars on left.
The name 'canopic' reflects the mistaken association by early Egyptologists with the Greek legend of Canopus.
24 Karat gold plate over pewter. Gold-filled ear wires.
